Sophie's Hip and Leg

On July 18th, I took Sophie to see her orthopedist, Dr. Goldberg, for her 6-month check up and after checking her legs and knees, he determined that it's no longer necessary for us to keep coming to see him on a regular basis! He rotated and bent her knees and legs for a while and said that her only issue is the pigeon-toed thing, and that, like most babies, she will more than likely outgrow it pretty soon. It was very good news!

A long time ago, after a handful of weekly visits, he told us that he didn't even think that she'd had any kind of congenital hip dysplasia, that it was probably just too-loose ligaments from my pregnancy hormones that contributed to her hip popping so easily in and out of joint, and that rectified itself pretty quickly, seeing as how she was out of her brace so soon. She was in the breech position before she was born -- not in the fetal position, but with her feet up by her ears -- so MY guess is that between her loose ligaments and the doctors yanking on her to pull her out bottom-first, AND her legs not being in the right position to help deepen her hip sockets, her leg just popped out from all those reasons. After doing some research online shortly after Sophie was born, we found out that this problem is common in first-borns, female babies, and breech babies, and she was all three.
