Potty Update

Well it's been a while since she first pottied on the potty seat. But she did it again last night! I sat her down on the potty after a diaper change, and I brought her some toys that she was asking for and I left her to sit and play for a bit (which is how it happened last time). When I came back, she'd pottied!
So that makes twice. Progress!

Sophie went in the potty!

Sophie went on the potty for the first time today!

I noticed she looked like she needed to go so I asked her if she wanted to go sit on the potty, which is finally something that's not totally and completely abhorrent to her anymore. So she sat on the potty, but it was too late; she'd already gone in her diaper. Oh well. I decided to let her sit there for a while and play with her cars and then I let her run around nekkid for a bit.

So for about a half hour or so, she ran in and out of the bathroom while I sat here at the computer working in my Etsy shop. Suddenly I hear a tinkling sound. Could it be? I sneaked over to the bathroom door and peeked around the corner and sure enough, there she was, sitting on the potty with a small puddle on the floor in front of her. A good sign, I thought! I investigated further and found she had definitely gone in the potty! All by herself!

We clapped and cheered and I handed her some toddler wipes. She immediately began sopping up the puddle on the floor! Poor thing, I think she felt bad about it. But we got her wiped off and I gave her a little cake as a treat. Yay Sophie!! Now we're going to have to try to get her to continue going on the potty.

She can S-P-E-L-L!

In the past two days, Sophie has learned to spell CAT, COW, DOG, and ROCKET. This morning, she picked up her Magna Doodle on which Frank had written "COW" the previous night and she traced over each letter, saying each one. Then she said the word "cow" after she traced and spelled it. But wait, it gets more impressive.

Then she erased it and brought the Magna Doodle to me. She looked at me and said "C", so I wrote a C. Then she said "A", so I wrote an A. Same thing for the letter T. She looked at the word and said "cat"! Yay Sophie, good girl!!

Later in the day she saw a dog on TV and ran over to her LeapFrog Word Whammer spelled the word "dog" using the magnetic letters without any help.

Tonight, Frank taught her to spell "Rocket" (her current favorite character on Little Einsteins). When they came downstairs after playing, she brought the Magna Doodle to him and slowly recited to him (without help, thinking carefully) the letters that spelled Rocket, one by one. He wrote each letter after she said it, and at the end she said the word "rocket"!!

My sweet sweet girl

Just being cute...

Hair Evolution

For those of you who don't see me on a regular basis, I thought I'd post a photo or two of how this newfangled haircut is evolving. The bangs really put up a good fight everyday, but I manage to make it work somehow. (Tim Gunn would be so proud.) However, my hair usually looks a bit different from day to day because I don't really know what I'm doing. But overall, I think it's working out for me. ;)

Yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. I didn't even run a brush through it before I took these. Not that it would have made much of a difference. My hair is ALWAYS frizzy when I wear it down.

March of the Dinosaurs

My mom and I took Sophie to Toys Я Us today to spend a gift card she got for Christmas and we decided on a large tub of dinosaurs. She enjoys it very much and below are a couple of pictures to illustrate what she likes to do with her toys. Most kids do this at some point or another, probably, but I still think it's pretty cute.
